She Wore a Mask of Roses | 72 x 60in

She Wore a Mask of Roses | 72 x 60in

From my “Invisible Queen” collection. This painting, “She Wore a Mask of Roses,” features a regal figure dressed in an elaborate eighteenth-century blue gown, her identity concealed behind a magnificent sphere of richly layered pink roses. Two graceful crowned cranes frame her on either side, their sweeping purple wings and brilliant golden crests creating a dramatic sense of symmetry, movement, and ceremony. By replacing the subject’s face with flowers and surrounding her with exotic birds, the work explores the tension between visibility and concealment, revealing how beauty, status, and expectation can become a mask. Ornate details, surreal imagery, and a refined palette transform the portrait into a powerful meditation on femininity, mystery, and hidden identity.
